We are hosting a live interview with British writer and journalist Afua Hirsch to discuss her Sunday Times-bestseller Brit(ish): On Race, Identity and Belonging.
In this spectacular debut Hirsh discusses the racial gap in British society, by creating a subtle blend of her personal experiences and historical and sociological research. She explains the origins of this gap and how society is in denial of its existence. This important book is a plea to face the fact that the British Empire is built on racism.
Afua Hirsch has Ghanese, Jewish and British roots and is an outspoken feminist. Dipsaus will discuss her work, her return to Ghana and the way this trip has shaped her opinions on racial tension in England. What it is like to be a black woman navigating the predominantly white world of media, how her book has been received in those media and what young women of colour can learn from her experiences. The (signed) book is for sale after the program.
